Stop Chasing Customers – Let Them Chase You!

Updated: Apr 1

A few years ago, my pipeline was as dry as my bank account. Despite countless cold calls, persistent emails, and even reaching out to my most loyal customer, Johan, nothing seemed to work. I vividly remember calling Johan, offering to visit his office, only to hear, “Jens, I don’t need your services right now, but I’ll know where to find you if something comes up.” That was a wake-up call. No matter how much I doubled my efforts, the results remained nearly zero.

It was then that I scribbled a simple yet powerful message in my notepad: “Stop chasing customers, let them chase you.” That question—“Why should they chase me?”—hit me hard. I had to figure out what value I could offer to make myself irresistible. Though the answer wasn’t immediately clear, I bet everything on discovering it.

I decided to create a new approach. I poured my insights and challenges into a little book titled with the very words I’d written. In it, I described innovative and challenging ways of selling that broke away from traditional methods. I even enlisted my kids to contribute with their drawings, adding a personal and creative touch to the narrative.

Taking it one step further, I sought out inspirational venues across Sweden that matched the boldness of my new strategy. I rented three iconic locations: the sky-high Cocknästornet in Stockholm, the uniquely named The Lipstick in Gothenburg, and the striking Turning Torso in Malmö. These places weren’t just backdrops—they were symbols of taking risks and elevating your game.

Next, I began sharing my journey and insights on LinkedIn. I posted messages that challenged the conventional approach to sales, inviting others to think differently and to be bold. I also offered free seats on workshops held at those remarkable venues. The response was overwhelming. People started engaging, signing up, and most importantly, I began to see the change: instead of constantly chasing potential clients, they started reaching out to me.

Fast forward to today—my approach has transformed my business. I now receive inbound leads from individuals and companies seeking sales training and mentorship, all because they resonate with the idea of creating attraction instead of chasing after prospects. The simple shift in mindset—from relentless pursuit to becoming a magnet for opportunities—has allowed me to control my destiny.

The journey wasn’t easy. It required putting my energy into something uncertain, but it was also liberating. By taking the wheel and steering my own path, I created an environment where value and inspiration naturally attract the right customers. It’s a lesson in authenticity and self-belief: when you offer something genuinely valuable, the right people will come to you.

So, I leave you with this thought for the new week: stop chasing customers. Let them chase you. Discover Medic—a fresh approach that not only helps you sell more, faster but also makes the process enjoyable. Follow the principles I teach, and you’re likely to exceed your targets, secure those bonuses, and have a great time doing it.
