Three Signs Your Sales Job Is in Danger – And a Simple Way Out

Updated: Apr 1

Hello Sales Champions,

MEDDICC Book Jens Edgren

Today I want to talk about a few unmistakable signals that your sales job might be on shaky ground—and more importantly, how you can turn things around.

Three Warning Signs:

1. Your pipeline is empty.

2. Your calendar is empty.

3. Your boss is lining up a “quick chat” for tomorrow.

(Just kidding… well, partly.) Many of us lean on inbound leads, rely on our marketing teams, or even delegate cold calling to junior staff. But if you truly want to hit your targets, land those dream clients, and secure that big bonus for a new car, house, or dream vacation, you need to take a proactive approach.

The Cold Outreach Challenge

Let’s face it: filling your pipeline with new opportunities isn’t easy. Cold calling can be daunting amid all the market noise. The key is to stand out with minimal effort—and that’s where a little strategy goes a long way.

A Story from the Field

Yesterday, I coached a gentleman in his early 60s who’s been in the game for over 40 years. Even with all his experience, he still faces the cold outreach challenge. His secret? A simple, “no information” message.

He does a bit of research on his prospect and then sends a brief note via LinkedIn, email, SMS, or even a quick call:

“I have an idea I think you’ll appreciate. Give me a call as soon as you can. Best wishes.”

This minimal, curiosity-triggering message cuts through the noise. Once the prospect responds, he immediately pitches his idea—something like, “I think by doing X, you could achieve more of Y”—and then asks for a meeting. It’s straightforward, personal, and effective.

Why This Approach Works:

• Keep It Short: A few well-chosen words can spark interest without overwhelming your prospect.

• Do Your Homework: A little research goes a long way in tailoring your message.

• Quick Value: When you connect, lead with a clear, concise value proposition.

If you’re ready to break out of the inbound-only mindset and take control of your sales destiny, give this strategy a try. Sometimes, a simple tweak in your approach can make all the difference.

I’m passionate about sharing these insights because I truly believe that with the right mindset and techniques, every salesperson can rise above the noise and secure those valuable meetings.
